summer employee
can I just leave an employee on the payroll and she is inactive until next year or over the Christmas holidays? I don't want to terminate her, just make her inactive

If an employee will not be paid for an extended period, you should terminate the employee. A Record of Employment should be generated and submitted to Service Canada. Please keep in mind that any employee can be re-instated easily through the system.

@DanCooperstock Any terminated staff member can be "re-hired" without needing to re-create an employee record (their original profile is still available and will be reactivated once you re-hire). If you need to see any terminated staff, navigate to EMPLOYEES and click the link that says TERMINATED. This will display all terminated staff and their records for you. If a staff member is terminated part way through a year, a T4 (RL-1 if applicable) will still be generated for them when you create the rest of your year-end tax slips.
